May Meeting

Our Members’ Sale has been postponed until the June 15th meeting. When we met in April, several members didn’t feel their daylilies were out of the ground enough to get a good idea of how many fans there were on the plants. It was suggested that the Members’ Sale be postponed until June. Since the distribution of the babysitter plants doesn’t take much time, a motion was made and seconded to move the Members’ Sale to the June meeting. A vote was taken and the motion was passed.

Join us on May 11th at 10 am at the Cooperative Extension offices in Voorheesville for A Short Course in Photography in the Garden. Frank Almquist has graciously agreed to be our speaker. Frank has been making garden pictures for years and collected a group of images on what to do – and not to do – when photographing. The program will discuss how a camera works, how to use various lenses, then spend some time on composition. To enforce points on composition, examples of good and bad photos are included in the talk.

The audience will have the opportunity to see the differences in photographing in sunlight as opposed to light shade. The advantage of early morning and late evening photography will also be discussed. Some techniques on photo editing will also be covered.

Come on Saturday and get some pointers on how to take great pictures for our Photo Contest at the December holiday gathering! Bring a friend and a dish to share.

Sharon Springs Garden Party

Sharon Springs is holding a Garden Party on May 25th and 26th. The event is held in beautiful Sharon Springs, NY, and will have handcrafted and artisan New York and USA producers. HADS will have a booth there which Barbara Sander and Don Constantino have graciously offered to maintain for the event. Plan on visiting if you can and help out Barbara and Don at the booth.

Babysitter Plants Fan Count

With the extension of the Members’ Sale to June, we should all have no excuses for not getting the fan count on our babysitter plants to Frank Almquist and Sharon Gallucci. We should also know by now which of our babysitter plants will be coming back for the Members’ Sale.
