June Meeting

Our June meeting is Saturday, June 16th at 10 am at the Cooperative Extension offices in Voorheesville. It’s sure to be a busy meeting with the distribution of babysitter plants and a silent auction of plants that didn’t make it to last month’s members’ sale. Some of the plants came from Wisconsin, where they also had a late spring and the plants weren’t ready to be shipped in May. We now have all the plants so we’re ready to rock and roll.

The babysitter plants will be distributed as usual. Names of eligible members will be drawn and matched up to the number of a babysitter plant. The member will take the plant home and care for

it until the plant grows enough fans, usually 5 to 7, to be brought back for auction at the members’ sale. The doting caretaker will then receive a fan

2018 Regional Meeting

There will be a Regional Meeting in 2018 – it will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, July 27th to 29th. The website is up and running with hotel information, schedules and registration information. The keynote speaker is Allan Banks, who is a member of the Nova Scotia Daylily Society and hybridizes locally in Nova Scotia. He has 30 registered daylilies. Get more information on the website:

The balance of the Members’ Sale plants, which missed the May sale date primarily due to cold spring weather, will be offered to members through a SILENT AUCTION. The potted plants will be arranged alphabetically with a photo of each bloom. A full description of each plant will be on the bid sheet as well as the grower’s price. The starting bid will be at the top of the list of blank lines along with the amount each subsequent bid will increase, based on the grower’s price. Members are then able to bid or outbid previous prices by writing their name and the amount of the bid on the sheet. You can write in another bid as many times as you like. The winner of the plant will be the last bid on the sheet when the auction is closed.

The auction will be ongoing through the meeting until near the end of the meeting when bidding will be closed. The winner of each plant will pay their bid amount and take their plant home.
